Healthy School
Commitment to Health, Well-Being, and Resilience in Our School At St Paul’s, we are dedicated to promoting the health and well-being of our pupils, staff, and the wider school community. We actively encourage children and staff to develop into kind, compassionate individuals who are confident and resilient, striving to reach their full potential while maintaining physical and mental health. This commitment is reflected in our ethos of recognising and celebrating diversity, treating everyone equitably, and fostering a culture of respect and care. We believe in listening to our students and supporting one another, even when delivering challenging messages that are crucial for personal growth. Encouraging our children to adopt a healthy lifestyle is paramount. We achieve this through an engaging curriculum that promotes positive attitudes towards health and well-being. Our food offerings are well-balanced, varied, and nutritious, with accessible water points throughout the school. We encourage children and staff to use reusable water bottles, and we provide opportunities for Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 children to enjoy fresh fruit and vegetables daily. Our playtimes have been transformed to include a variety of activities, supported by our partnership with Youth Dreams Project Cambridge (YDP Cambridge), which provides daily sporting activities for all children from Reception to Year 6. Student involvement is key; feedback from our students has led to the development in the activities and equipment provided at lunchtime and development in 2025-26 of additional break time access to equipment. We aim to make every day a ‘Healthy School Day’, focusing on healthy eating and physical activities. Children have opportunities to cook fresh foods, and our salad bar is a popular choice at lunchtime. Our staff organise playground games and a range of after-school activities are offered both by St Paul’s staff and YDP, of many active clubs. Our partnership with Jnr Chef offers our children access to healthy recipes to cook at home as well as monthly delivery boxes to support some of our SEND children to develop key healthy eating skills they will need in the future. In addition to physical health, we prioritise emotional well-being through our Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) curriculum. Our partnership with counsellors, provides a safe space for children to discuss any issues they may face. Our commitment to a healthy school environment is reflected in our aims, which include promoting a whole-school approach to healthy lifestyles, providing high-quality Physical Education, and ensuring all students have access to nutritious food and clean drinking water. We recognise that a healthy school is integral to raising levels of pupil achievement and improving standards, fostering an environment conducive to learning. By investing in the health and well-being of our students, we equip them with the skills and attitudes necessary to make informed decisions about their health, ensuring they are prepared to thrive both academically and personally
