Parent Support
National College
As part of our ongoing commitment to professional development, I am pleased to inform you that St Paul’s has subscribed to the National College for Continuous Professional Development (CPD) for all our staff. This initiative is designed to enhance the knowledge and skills of our educators, enabling them to create a safe and supportive environment for your children.
The National College offers invaluable resources that empower both teachers and parents. Their courses are specifically designed to equip educators with the confidence and skills necessary to engage in age-appropriate, informed discussions with children concerning various important topics. Such discussions are crucial in preparing our children for the challenges they may encounter beyond the school gates.
In partnership with you, we believe it is essential to empower parents with the knowledge required to support their children in this rapidly changing digital world. To this end, we encourage you to take advantage of the resources available through the National College. By creating your own free account at the following link, you can access a range of courses tailored to assist you in guiding your children effectively: National College Registration.
We wholeheartedly encourage you to explore these courses, as they are instrumental in fostering a robust foundation of understanding and resilience in our children. Together, we can ensure that our students are equipped with the necessary skills to navigate their lives safely and healthily.
We would like to highlight two key areas and their associated courses, which are particularly relevant:
- Mental Health: Certificate in Understanding Mental Health for Parents and Carers
- Online Safety: For parents and carers of children aged 3-7 or For parents and carers of children aged 7-11
Thank you for your continued support and partnership. Should you have any questions or require further information, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Thake.
Healthy relationships
Early Help Offer
We pride ourselves in knowing the children well: we are alert to the welfare of our children, and are vigilant regarding any situation in which we can provide support. We have a number of systems in place to identify unmet needs, and we seek at all times to work in collaboration with families, with openness, integrity and understanding. The needs of the child is always at the centre of all we do. If your family are experiencing difficulties at home, please come and talk to us.
Early Help is everyone’s responsibility. As such, you can speak with any member of the school team who would be happy to work with you or pass your concerns on to one of the safeguarding leads.
Listed below is our school offer;
- Taking the time to listen to children’s concerns.
- Taking the time to listen to families. Sometimes, you might need to share information or have a difficult situation you need to make us aware of.
- An effective PSHE curriculum which supports children and develops key skills, not only for school but for life.
- Parenting workshops. These aren’t sessions to tell you how to do it, but an opportunity to share what works and sometimes what doesn’t!
- Parent coffee mornings - a chance to talk to staff and outside agencies about things that may be worrying you.
- There are a number of support agencies out there who we can access, refer to, or signpost you to including the Mental Health Support Term, School Nursing Team and Family Workers.
Parenting courses
Parents and carers sometimes need extra support or information to help with parenting and to build a strong and positive family life.
Parenting courses can help families:
- develop their confidence, skills, knowledge and understanding of parenting
- learn effective parenting strategies and promote their child's development
- develop skills in understanding and responding to their child's behaviour
We know that parenting at any stage can be a challenge, from reading baby cues to toddler tantrums, growing independence to teenage emotions.
Cambridgeshire County Council have partnered with In Our Place to offer free courses to help you understand how best to support your child.
