Reading for Pleasure

World Book Day 2025
Thank you to everyone who contributed to and supported our World Book Day celebrations. It was a truly delightful day, filled with enthusiasm and a shared love or reading. Throughout the day the children joined in with a live BBC lesson, completed art work, shared books and built book based board games!
Key Stage 2 Book Corners
Book corners have had a makeover! A change of furniture, reorganisation and new books added. This allows our children to have a greater range of choice within their age range. From graphic novels to poetry - from fiction to non-fiction. There is something for everyone! We also have boost and challenge books to support children of different levels.

Reading Rivers
Reading rivers allows children to share their experiences and reading practices. Children are able to reflect upon and share their wider reading diet with their peers, their teacher and their family. It makes reading a part of everyday discussions and allows teachers to gain an insight into wider reading habits. As a school, we have created a reading rivers to display to share the opportunities we have to read throughout each and every day.
World Book Day 2024

On March 7th 2024, we had the pleasure of celebrating World Book Day, incorporating our delightful wooden spoons project into the activities. The theme for this year's World Book Day was "read your way", emphasising the power and joy of reading in shaping one's own unique reading journey. Children completed Reading Rivers in class to reflect on how reading impacts every part of their day.
The wooden spoons project served as a creative tool for our students to express their love for literature and storytelling. This initiative aimed to foster a deeper connection with books and characters, allowing the children to explore their favourite stories in a hands-on and imaginative manner.
As we cherish the significance of World Book Day, it is important to remember that this celebration extends beyond the day itself. World Book Day is about igniting a passion for reading, expanding literary horizons, and nurturing a lifelong love for books in our young learners. It serves as a reminder of the magic and wonder that stories can bring into our lives.
GIVE THE GIFT OF IMAGINATION
We have made a wishlist of books for the school; we have looked at recommended reads and researched high quality texts for each year group. These are compiled into the wishlists which you can find on our school website.
The children love hearing stories read to them throughout the school day from these boxes and beyond!
